Renee Russell

Renee Russell

Who is Renee Russell? The answer is so complex. Renee Russell is deep. That’s a deep question. I am a sister, a daughter. I consider myself to be a pre-mother. Anything I have I honor it. I am a girlfriend, a cousin, a professional, I am a music artists, Singer, songwriter and an entertainer. I consider myself to be abstract piece of art. One of those paintings that you look at, but you can’t really define what the painting means. You have to figure it out. It moves you and you can feel the energy in it. Like abstract art, you see different colors splashed everywhere, but you have no choice but to determine that it is a good piece of art. I am an abstract musician. There is always more to it than you think.

I don’t have something to sell. I’m just being myself. I’m being real. I don’t have a pitch. I don’t feel that I have to twist a story around or add a little spice to who I am . I think that I am already naturally spicy. People can relate to my personality and who I am as a person because of that. I’m not skinny, a run way model, nor do I fit the typical prototype, but I love me like never before. I’m just around the way Renee baby!

Renee on her new release: “I’m feeling much more bold, free. In many ways, it’s closer to my first album. My original concept was to show how different women think and feel– you know, like the housekeeper, the school girl the business woman etc… – as I started writing and recording, I started taking on all these characters in the booth. I put myself in each woman’s place… and found that it became more about me, all of it; expressing myself with the envy, the anger, the frustration, the loneliness, the joy, the passion and the rapture….everything…and that’s what makes it juicy… Juicy, indeed.

I like to think that my music “is what it is”. What comes out on the microphone is what it’s supposed to be. I don’t like to spend too much time trying to figure out what the song is supposed to be. I write and let the words come out naturally. I don’t stand for creating and making the music but the music creating itself. That’s when you hear songs sound so fluent. When you don’t try to make it pop…It just comes out that way. If I spend lots of time on it struggling then I am trying to make something happen. I want everything to take place at its own natural place. If it’s not poppin I don’t try to make it pop. When the track comes on the words just flow and come right out. It takes no time to finish it. I use personal life experiences to write. If it’s something that is real you don’t have to sit and think about it.
